Established in 2004, Lloyd Rail is a wholly Irish owned provider of operating personnel for specialist track-mounted rail maintenance machines. Our major client is Iarnrod Eireann (Irish Rail). We also have worked with Somague / Neopul (Portugal) and McLaughlin & Harvey (Northern Ireland) on track work in the new Portlaoise Train Care Facility completed in 2008 and on the Derry line relay project currently ongoing.

As we operate in a safety critical field we are wholly focused on training, systems and procedures in order to fulfil the demands of our clients with an emphasis on Safety, Quality and Productivity. Lloyd Rail is audited annually by the NSAI and holds ISO 9001 and OHSAS 18000 accreditation.

Lloyd Rail provides highly skilled personnel to operate Irish Rail’s fleet of rail mounted track maintenance machinery. Most of this work involves tamping (returning the track to the correct geometry) but also includes adhesion laying (Sandite), weed spraying, ballast cleaning, ballast regulation and operation of inspection vehicles.

In 2008, Lloyd Rail announced a strategic alliance with major Swiss based rail contractor The Sersa Group (www.sersa-group.com). A new company, Lloyd Sersa (IE) Ltd. was established and following a public tender process, the new company was successful in being awarded a contract by Iarnrod Eireann for Thermit Welding. 2 Thermit Welding Crews using SmW-F methodology are now working full time on the Iarnrod Eireann network. In addition, due to the substantial resources available from The Sersa Group, additional crews are available on demand.

Lloyd Rail considers this strategic alliance with Sersa as a major step forward for the company, allowing us draw on the significant technological advances in rail maintenance developed by that company. These technologies include the patented Second Life System for renewal of Switches & Crossings, RailVac for minor excavations, and Flash Butt Welding. Over the coming years we expect to demonstrate the cost savings achievable by use of these technologies to our clients
